China is restructuring its Ministry of Science and Technology to achieve technological independence more quickly, allowing the country not to fear sanctions. The one who is ahead, as you know, is not afraid of any sanctions. This is reported by Reuters.

One of the goals of the restructuring will be to increase the ability to concentrate resources allocated for scientific development in China. The reform plan for the ministry was submitted to the State Council of China today, Tuesday, March 7.

"Confronted with the intense circumstance in the field of worldwide logical and mechanical rivalry, as well as the strategy of outside regulation and concealment from threatening nations, China needs to accelerate the implementation of projects in the scientific and technological field, striving for independence," the reform plan says. Specific countries are not indicated in the plan, but everything is clear anyway.

The restructuring will take place against the backdrop of constant calls by the country's leader Xi Jinping to reduce dependence on Western technologies by developing their own. In parallel, the United States imposes more and more new sanctions restrictions on China.

"In the face of fierce international competition, whether we can build a socialist modern country depends on self-reliance and our own science and technology," Comrade Xi said on Sunday.

The reform plan will reduce the responsibilities of the Ministry of Science and Technology, removing responsibilities such as creating high-tech industrial development zones and bringing technological progress to rural areas. Also, as part of the restructuring, a new decision-making body will be created - the Central Commission on Science and Technology.

At the same time, global leadership seems to be quite an achievable task for China: according to Reuters, some time ago, one of the analytical companies in Australia found out that China has leading developments in 37 of the 44 technology areas studied by experts.
